Run Away Week!!

Wow this week has flown by so quickly! Last weekend I got together with some friends and went out for a “girls night out” we all had a lot of laughs and a great time! Here are some pics:

This week the Tall Ships came to Lunenburg. Wow a few ships sure can make a small town CRAZY!!! Lunenburg is where I work. For some of my co-workers it was a struggle to even get a parking spot at 8:30 in the morning. I go in for 7:30 and usually I can get my regular spot, but if you move during the day…you will be parking a ways up the street and walking back to the office. I love the new show Pirate Master on tv the ship that they are using on that show is one of the tall ships that was in Lunenburg. Here is an old picture of the Picton Castle. This is before they painted her black for the tv show.

You can click here - TALL SHIPS to find Profiles & Specifications of all the ships.

On Thursday night my Mom and I went out for a little Frenchy shopping and supper. My Mom has been having some trouble for the last couple months with a bad cough and chest infections. A few weeks ago the Doctor sent her for x-rays, after receiving the results our doctor has now sent her for a CAT scan. So now we are waiting for the results from the CAT scan and praying everything is ok. Waiting is hard, it doesn’t matter what it is you are waiting for!

Happy Anniversary To My One And Only

Larry,

How do I begin to tell you how lucky I am
to have you in my life?
I'll start by saying what an honor it is
for me to be your wife.

You're my best friend in the good times
and my rock in times of sorrow.
You're the reason for sweet yesterdays
and my promise for tomorrow.

I never thought I could feel this loved
until I became your wife.
You made this year and every year
the best one of my life.

Love Always & Forever
Nikki xo

Here are some pictures of the roses my hubby sent to me and the other surprises he had waiting for me at home! Wow, I think he's a keeper!!

Lorne Greene's New Wilderness?

For the past little while the wild animals around our hose have taken over! We have quite a variety of animals from birds, squirrels and rabbits to ducks, pheasants, deer, porcupine and raccoons. Everyone knows how cute these animals all are ... BUT ... when they are coming to our yard all day and all night eating my shrubs, trees, flowers, and bird food (apparently not just for the birds anymore)they can be very annoying. They are getting very brave too. If I am out on my chair swing talking they will still come in the yard. A couple of weeks ago we had company over and we were out at the campfire, all of a sudden we could hear this snorting and grunting in the woods ... it was the deer letting us know they wanted to pass through the yard. Boy oh boy, they will soon just come in the house! Well I will leave you with some pictures from last night. This is what we saw as we were eating supper, lol!

For my readers that are not Canadian or are too young to remember, HERE is where my blog title came from, for this post.

Now For A Short Commercial Break…

As many of our regular visitors may or may not have noticed I have made a few changes to our blog in the last couple of weeks.

First and most noticeable change (and the one that I am the most proud of) would be my new blog header (look up, look way up). I am very happy with how the top of my blog looks now, actually I LOVE IT!! I am also very impressed because I did it all by myself!! (Yup, I’m tootin’ my own horn)

To say the least I started out a very inexperienced blogger. Before we made the decision to adopt I had never even looked at a blog, but once I got started…well I guess you could say I was hooked! I have been trying to learn more about HTML (see definition below) on my own so that I can better navigate this “blogging hobby.” (Yeah! That’s what it is, it’s a hobby NOT an addiction!!) Luckily one of my friends (Donna) has a book that she used in school that has information about HTML and she is going to let me borrow it…let’s see what I can do with a little self training.

Definition of HTML
HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language.
1. Hypertext is ordinary text that has been dressed up with extra features, such as formatting, images, multimedia, and links to other resources.
2. Markup is the process of taking ordinary text and adding extra symbols. Each of the symbols used for markup in HTML is a command that tells a browser how to display the text.

Some of the other new features I have added to the right hand side of my blog are:

~ A blog answering machine! This is one of the coolest blog tools I have seen. I love it!! It is very fun and easy to use, give it a try before you leave.

~ A link so you can send us an email message. (click on EMAIL US!)

~ A link to take you back in time (if you are really bored) to our MSN blog, before I could even figure out Blogger! LOL!!

~ FeedBlitz – this is a handy little gizmo for friends and family who do not follow any other blogs. You just type in your email address and every time I make a new entry on our blog you will receive an email to let you know. Then you don’t have to keep checking when I haven’t made any entries. This is also a good way for you not to forget about checking our blog!! (Thanks for subscribing already Karryann)

So there is a run down of all our new blog gadgets. I hope you find some of them useful.

07/07/2007 - Lucky?

Due to the "special date" today, I found this and thought it was some neat info:

Those superstitious types who freaked out last year when the calendar read 06/06/06 will have something to smile about today … the 7th day of the 7th month, 2007.

Believing the triple appearance of the number 7 will bring luck, many people are planning important events (such as weddings) for this first Saturday in July.

If they only knew what the Chinese were thinking.

The number seven is considered lucky due to its frequent and favorable appearance in the Bible, say historians.

Chinese culture, for example, associates "degrees" of luck according to how a number is pronounced. Eight, whose Chinese name rhymes with the words for prosperity and wealth, is considered particularly auspicious. The Beijing Olympics, as a result, will open next year at 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2008.

Oh, and many Chinese consider 7 a very unlucky number associated with death.

So, do you think the day was lucky or not?? I had a great day out visiting and enjoying the sun...not a bad day so far!

Facebook?

Larry is recovering well from his surgery. He still has some bruising, pain and limited movement, but he has started physio and we are hoping that will help. For those of you that are wondering, it was his shoulder that was operated on. He had to have a bone ground down; he also had a lot of scar tissue removed that was the result from his first surgery that resulted in him developing “frozen shoulder”.

I have a question for all of my Blogger buddies…do you know about Facebook? All I can say is WOW, what a great internet tool! I have re-connected with so many friends that I have lost touch with over the years, it is wonderful! Not only has it put me back in touch with some old friends, but I have made new friends through the China adoption groups that I have joined. Believe me it is worth checking out if you haven’t yet!

Be careful though, it can be very addictive!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

I made the recipe (Pina Colada Cups) that I mentioned in an earlier post. They are yummy, not too sweet but very rich. Just incase you are interested here is the recipe.

Pina Colada Cups

Recipe Rating: 5 stars
Prep Time: 15 min
Total Time: 4 hr 15 min
Makes: 12 servings

~ 1/3 cup OREO Chocolate Cookie Crumbs
~ 1 container (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese Spread
~ 2 Tbsp. sugar
~ 1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineapple, undrained
~ 1 cup BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut, toasted
~ 1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided

DIVIDE crumbs evenly among 12 paper-lined medium muffin cups.

BEAT cream cheese spread and sugar in large bowl with wire whisk until light and fluffy. Add pineapple and coconut; mix well. Stir in whipped topping. Spoon into prepared muffin cups. Sprinkle with additional toasted coconut, if desired.

FREEZE at least 4 hours or until firm. Remove from freezer about 10 minutes before serving to soften slightly.
(I would thaw them a little longer)

Have a safe and happy holiday!
